Bursitis is the inflammation of the fluid-filled sac (bursa) that lies between a tendon and skin, or between a tendon and bone. This condition may be acute or chronic. Bursae are fluid-filled cavities near joints where tendons or muscles pass over bony projections. They assist movement and reduce friction between moving parts. Bursitis can be caused by chronic overuse, trauma, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, or infection. Bursitis commonly occurs in the shoulder, knee, elbow, and hip. Other areas that may be affected include the Achilles tendon and the foot. Joint pain, tenderness, swelling, warmth over the affected joint, and limited range of motion are all signals of inflammation.
You might remember a bursa sac infection and resulting surgery that sidelined Peyton Manning for more than a month back in 2008. Laser therapy, ART, chiropractic adjustment, kinesio tape and acupuncture are all effective therapies that can be used to treat bursitis. If you’re experiencing any of the above symptoms, contact a proper evaluation from the doctors at Greenapple Sports and Wellness. Our goal is not just to treat the condition, but to also recognize any imbalances that may have led to the condition, and provide the guidance and treatment to help you avoid the injury in the future.
